Time For Some R&R Troopers!

An update on Republic Trooper and a massive thank you to all of our readers!

Written By: Andy Muchmore

This past week, July 2nd to be exact, Republic Trooper turned 1 – happy birthday RT! Although it is our birthday week, I felt it was appropriate to update all of you with the status of RT as a whole. Obviously over the past several months things have slowed to a crawl and I would like to personally address the situation.

Three years ago a very good friend of mine, Dave, approached me with the idea of RepublicTrooper.com. At the time I was neck deep in other projects and I was unavailable to help out, even though I was eagerly following the development of Star Wars: The Old Republic. Over the years I would get phone calls, emails, texts, and the like asking if and when I would be available to “make it happen.” Around May of last year I was finally in a place where I could offer my services to Dave and help build Republic Trooper from the ground up. After several months of planning and development RT saw its first public reader and we were off to the races!

Since that time RT has seen tremendous growth and acceptance within the overall Star Wars: The Old Republic community – and I have to say, all of us cannot thank you enough for being readers, listeners, fans, and for not only playing the Trooper class in game, but being believers in BioWare and SWTOR to begin with. When RT went live we were woefully late to the game, in terms of established fan sites, but we did this for the love of the game, the love of the class, and to be honest – the love of the company that made it all happen. As long time gamers we had faith that a company like BioWare would, without a doubt, blow our minds with their new MMO.

The team moved cautiously down the corridors deeper into the detention center. They passed several security droids that, had they not been deactivated at the command center, would have been attacking. “Hold up.” Gage ordered as they approached the last security lock. “Blaster, take a look.” Blaster moved up to the door slowly in a crouched position. He took a look through the window and responded ‘Clear’ into the comms channel. “Zeikk.” Gage nodded towards the door.

Zeikk stepped up and used the coded key they had acquired in the control room. As the door opened he was suddenly knocked into the door frame as Greasy pushed past dashing into the cellblock, Jenz following close behind. The block itself was easily a hundred meters deep lined on both sides with cells. With the security lockdown in place, they would have to open each cell individually. As Zeikk started with the closest cell, Greasy and Jenz ran down from cell to cell looking through the barred window in each door, sometimes calling into a cell to wake a sleeping individual. About half of the cells were occupied, most of them with Balmorrans. As the first bewildered citizens were set free from their cells, Gage and Rein briefly informed them of their impending escape and readied them for the exit. Blaster followed the two women as they searched for Thalin.

All of the team members leaned in to hear what Rein had to say, but Gage held his hand up to stop Rein, and then looked at Greasy and Jenz; “What are you doing?” He asked calmly. Greasy immediately sat back in her seat, but Jenz looked at Gage a bit befuddled.

“What?” She asked innocently.

Gage forcefully pushed her back in her seat; “You’re a prisoner, not an over enthusiastic and irritating pilot.”

Gage was packing the few items that he had in his hut when a knock came to the door frame. “Come in.” Gage answered without turning around.

“Excuse me Gage, might I have a word with you?” Rein asked as he stepped into the hut.

“What’s on your mind, Rein?” Gage responded as he turned to face the young Jedi.

Bed ridden for several more days, Gage awoke this early morning feeling better and more energized than he had in a long time. From the low light filtering through the white drapes he could tell it was early morning and he was alone with the exception of one of the medical droids. “Commander it is recommended that you remain in bed for a little while longer.”

“Stand down,” Gage quietly ordered the droid as he placed his feet on the ground and stood up, a little wobbly. The bandages he had been wrapped in several days ago were now gone. He found himself dressed in a pair of those gaudy shorts that he had seen Blaster in and a white undershirt. He lifted the shirt up to inspect his wounds. The bleeding and charred skin was gone and a circular scar from the blaster bolt was still very reddish looking. He held his shirt up as he turned and looked in a mirror over his shoulder to see a similar scar on his left shoulder blade where the bolt had exited. ‘One more set of scars to add to his collection,’ He thought to himself.
