Hating On 1.3!

The roadmap for The Old Republic relies heavily upon BioWare’s ambitious patch schedule to keep the livelihood of the MMO intact. The first two major patch iterations have, if nothing else, delivered a lot of changes to the game. The nature of the changes that BioWare has included is the topic of much debate amongst the community and the information that’s beginning to trickle out regarding Patch 1.3 is no exception. The evildoers over at Darth Hater have a SUPERB guide—which they will keep updating—regarding any and all information on Patch 1.3.

Republic Trooper hosts Fan Fiction Mondays every week and recently we had the opportunity to sit down with a few other prominent Fan Fiction writers in the SWTOR community. We asked them to share their thoughts on writing and what brought them to a Time Long Ago in a Galaxy Far, Far Away.

This week we were priveleged to talk to Dimbo from Dimbo the Trooper. If you don’t already read about his exploits, you can do so here.

Republic Trooper: How did you get into writing? What was the earliest thing you can remember writing?

Dimbo the Trooper: I entered a writing contest from Mos Eisley Radio that involved writing a back story for your main character in SWTOR. After I posted mine I got several emails and comments asking when the next episode was. My initial response was ‘um never?’ It really kind of took off from there. I started to think about Dimbo adventuring through the Star Wars galaxy and it came so easily [that] I had to write it down.

This week we have witnessed a conflict that threatens to dwarf the struggle between The Empire and The Republic. Maybe I exaggerate but in all seriousness there has been quite a bit of unrest surrounding the announcement of the second fan site summit for Star Wars: The Old Republic. Things have become tense and strained between some fan sites and BioWare regarding the list of attendees for the second summit. We here at Republic Trooper have our own opinions on the matter.

My last report offered some brief first impressions on the developing behemoth known as The Old Republic. Today I offer further insight into both TOR itself and the great people – players, community sites, and Bioware – who made a lasting impact on my already positive outlook of the game and community. After this weekend, I have absolutely no doubt that Star Wars: The Old Republic will have a massive impact on players, the genre, and to be honest…the industry as a whole. I believe TOR will quickly become not only a gaming, but a cultural phenomenon.
